AT Required – Calgary Colts Junior Football Team

the Calgary Colts Junior Football team are looking for a part-time/seasonal Athletic Therapist.

About the Calgary Colts Junior Football Team:
The Calgary Colts are a premier Junior Football Team based in Calgary, Alberta, competing in
the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL). As a team committed to excellence both on and off
the field, we prioritize the health, safety, and performance of our players. We are looking for a
dedicated and passionate Athletic Therapist to join our team and play a critical role in
supporting the athletic performance and recovery of our athletes.

Position Overview:
The Athletic Therapist will be responsible for providing comprehensive injury prevention,
assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services to the players of the Calgary Colts as part of
the medical team. This position requires a proactive individual who can work in a fast-paced,
high-performance environment, collaborating with coaches, athletes, and medical staff to ensure
optimal recovery and overall well-being of the team.
Key Responsibilities:

Injury Prevention:
o Conduct pre-practice and pre-game assessments, taping, and treatment
o Provide individualised or modified warm-up and cool-down strategies for athletes
to prevent injuries.
o Develop and implement injury prevention programs.

Injury Assessment and Treatment:
o Assess injuries sustained during practices, games, or events.
o Administer immediate first aid and emergency care when necessary.
o Create individualized treatment plans to address injuries and support
rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation and Recovery:
o Design and implement rehabilitation programs for injured athletes, ensuring safe
and effective return-to-play protocols.
o Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.

Game Day Coverage:
o Attend scheduled home and away games, providing sideline support, injury
management, and immediate treatment.
o Communicate with coaching staff and medical team regarding player status and
injury updates.

Collaboration:
o Work closely with the Head Therapist, the assistant therapists and the team
physician, and appropriate staff to provide holistic care.
o Provide educational resources to athletes on injury prevention, recovery
strategies, and overall physical well-being.
o Assist with supervision of Athletic Therapy students as required.
• Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain detailed records of all injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
o Provide the Head Therapist with detailed information about new injury
assessments; and updates on chronic cases.
o Maintain open chain of communication with the medical staff and provide
coaching staff with appropriate and selective information about the injury status
of players

Qualifications:
Education:
o Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Athletic Therapy (or related field).
o Maintained certification with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association
(CATA) or eligibility for certification (PC status accepted).

Experience:
o Previous experience working contact sports preferred
o Experience in injury assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation.
o Experience working as part of a medical team

Skills and Attributes:
o Strong understanding of athletic injury prevention and rehabilitation techniques.
o Ability to work in high-pressure situations and manage multiple tasks effectively.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
o Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions in the event of
injury or emergencies.

Additional Requirements:
o Current Sports First Responder / CPR certification
o Availability to attend select team practices, home games, and select away games
(Evenings and weekends).
o Knowledge of football-specific injuries and treatment protocols is an asset.
